TI-84 vs. TI-84 Plus
“What’s the difference between the TI-84 and the TI-84 Plus?”, is a question I get often. I guess the name of the calculator is what’s inherently confusing. But the answer to the question is that there is no such thing as a normal TI-84 without the Plus. There is only a TI-84 Plus.
There are quite a few different versions this line of calculators. Which only adds to the confusion. I’d recommend checking out our page on The Differences Between All TI-84 Plus Models to make sure you make the right buying decision.
Why do people think there is a TI-84?
My theory is that Texas Instruments (TI) did come out with a TI-83 and a TI-83 Plus. These were the predecessors to the TI-84 Plus. The difference between those two was mainly that the Plus version had permanent memory storage capabilities. All versions of the TI-84 Plus have permanent memory capabilities. So, TI decided not to remove the Plus from any of the calculators’ names.
You can check out a full history of TI calculators, their names, and their capabilities at this Wikipedia page.
